Took the plunge and bought this. Probably paid a premium for the slab, but being a noob to these, wanted to be safe. Seller pics. Thanks. Ed

Vf30 is what I'd shoot at.

I've never attempted to grade one of these before, but I'll give it a try. VF-20?

1786 Maris 24-P? F15. All NJ's are nice. Yours is very nice, good planchet, looks like honest wear to me!

Very cool New Jersey. I'll double check amida17's attribution when I get home from work. As far as grade I will say that it is an EAC 15 maybe EAC 20. I have no idea what the TPGs would grade this coin.

nice looking coin. Not sure how to grade this but F-15 to vf20 sounds reasonable.

Colonial and pre-federal coinage is probably one of the most difficult areas in U.S numismatics with regard to assigning a grade. This due to the obvious variability in striking quality. However, If one was to use copper standards to grade this one, I would grade it about VF20. And a nice coin by the way!

I can confirm that this is a Maris 24-P which is an R.2. According to the EAC Grading Guide this coin is EAC 15. The obverse of this coin is in an excellent state of preservation. Reverse P of 1786 is known for weak strikes and it is not uncommon that coins struck from this die show little detail. The planchet while a little crusty is original and exhibits honest wear. Very nice Nova Caesarea. New Jersey Maris 24-P R.2 15/15

Can't thank you guys enough. Right on as usual. I think I see a little green stuff on the reverse. Hope it won't advance too much in the next couple of years.
