Interesting that a lot of the coins are circulated, cleaned, and even one Trade dollar holed  Did the mint branches not keep a few specimens or test strikes or what have you (even if not authorized by the government)? I would have thought that mint employees would have swapped out their pocket change for real First Strikes and if they had any friends who knew they worked at the mint who were collectors make sure that they cherrypicked the best from each strike for them.

 That scale is huge! Also, is that press electric? I see what look like electrical components, and I suppose that home electricity was available in the CC mint's era, but it never really occurred to me.

The scale was Massive! I'm 6'5" & it was about 2ft taller. I had to stand halfway up the staircase to get a wide shot... I think the press was converted to electricity relatively recently. They've been coining modern 999 and copper commemorative rounds with the CC mm for last 20yrs or so
