I picked this up in a 100+ Wheat penny lot that included a lot of really nice Wheaties with a few Uncirculated coins.

Outside of the corrosion, it is a fine example of a steel cent.

just wondering is that a normal size for the 4 in 1943? I think that some of the "corrosion" might be the remnants of a laquer coating.

Yes mikey, those 4's are tiny and are prone to not even being there. I've seen a few that look like only the 4 was effected by grease or overpolishing

T-BOP you do realize the 43S is worth more than the 43 Philly or 43D. It is around .65 Cents on the low end and around $20 high end. I figure that coin in the condition it is in would still be worth a few bucks depending on grade.

In corroded condition these really don't have any value. If you want to look at the bright side, the 1943-S is the lowest mintage steel cent.
