I have a 38mm coin and its lose in a 38mm lighthouse capsule. It moves around a little in there. Is that normal for lighthouse capsules? Should I get some Air Tite capsules? Or has my coin shrunk?

Your coin might move up and down meaning it is too short in the capsule to fill up the space. I would try airtite and see how that goes.

I just physical measured my coin and it's 38mm so it must be the lighthouse capsules, I'll try the Air Tite capsules I think.

Is this normal? Anyone else have this problem with Lighthouse capsules? Or did I buy counterfeit Lighthouse capsules?

I noticed that lighthouse 38mm capsules are actually 38.1 mm...wonder if this is the reason for the coin being loose?

"Coin Capsules inner diameter 38 mm (10-pack)

Coin capsules for US Large $ (Morgan, Liberty, Peace), inside 38.1 mm, outside 44 mm, pack of 10 , pack of 10"

According to the Red Book the later silver dollar issues (SL, Morgan, Peace) should measure 38.1 mm.
So does your coin show edge wear?

Just to show those looking, here is some information & an example of the coin in question:

OBVERSE:
The obverse was designed by Melecio Figueroa and features a young Filipina in a flowing dress standing while striking an anvil with a hammer held in her right hand, her left arm is half raised and she holds an olive branch in her hand.

In the background is the Mayon volcano with a billowing smoke coming from the crater. On the upper periphery of the coin is the denomination "ONE PESO" and on the lower periphery is the word "FILIPINAS".

REVERSE:
The reverse design features an eagle perched atop a shield. On the outer periphery are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the year of issue.

To the left of the year may be a mint mark "S" for San Francisco. Coin with no mint marks were minted at the Philadelphia Mint.

Variety 1: 1903-1906 - Silver Weight 0.780 ounces (26.956 grams @ 90% Au)
Variety 2: 1907-1912 - Silver Weight 0.514 ounces (20.000 grams @ 75% Au )

Years Minted: 1903-1912
Composition: 75% Silver (90% Silver 1903-1906)
Diameter: 36 mm
Weight: 20 grams (26.956 grams 1903-1906)
Total Mintage: 32,830,000
Mints: Philadelphia, San Francisco

Lighthouse-Capsule-Too-Big,-Not-Tight-Fit

The keys to the series are the 1906S and unobtainable 1907 proof issue (only 2 are known to exist).
Counterfeits of the 1906S are quite common so if you have the opportunity (and budget) be sure to purchase a certified coin from a reputable dealer.
The semi-key coins are the 1911S & 1912S issues.

For an undervalued coin look for 1904 issues, with a mintage of only 11,000 it represents a bargain when comparing value to mintage availability.

SMN: This site is showing the coin is 36mm, yet Wikipedia said it was 38mm?

You mean round capsules, right? Yeah, they are always a little bigger. Maybe you could get your desiered result experimenting with smaller capsules, I don't know. I keep my 2€ CC coin in round capsules and yeah, in time coins turn by themselves for some reason. :)

But the Quadrum programme from the same company fits coins tight. I use them for silver coins. 38 mm fits 38 coins perfectly (but haven't tested them with 38.1 mm US dollars).

Wikipedia actually says 38mm for 1903-1906 and 35mm for 1907-1912. Which year is yours? 35mm or 36mm would definitely rattle in a 38mm holder.

You may want to try the holders with the foam ring spacer. Those allow a bit of leniency in terms of coin fitment since the foam stretches.

It's Liberty. Not a young Filipina woman.

Just got some Air Tite capsules and they give such a tight snug fit. The Quantity of the acrylic is really good and I couldn't recommend them enough. Great product.

The lighthouse capsules are still good.

I'd recommend the Air-Rite capsules.

Glad you got it sorted. I really like those Peso coins, too. You put them on my radar.

You could use a piece of mylar or similar plastic from a hobby store, cut out a small piece and use it inside to hold your coin in place.
