Hello everyone. Long time reader, I registered to post this.
Was noodling my collection and noticed a different reeding on one of my 2008 $2 coins. Pictures attached with variety on the left normal on the right. Anyone seen this type of reeding on a $2 coin before?
Cant explian how it happened but very noticeable from other coins.

Thanks,
Mark.

Another pic from the scanner. kinda looks like the reeding tried to go right the way around the coin? Very weak but noticeable.

Those parallel lines are caused by galling. I see this a lot on the local coinage. Are you familiar with how coins are minted? These marks are caused by the sliding of the coin with the collar.

Here's a very nice explanation by Ken Potter (koinpro):

I'm not familiar with Australian coinage or counterfeits so that's the best I can tell you.

I sent an email off to the Mint to see if they know anything about this. I'll await the reply and post it here. Thanks very much for the replies.
Cheers.

Hard to say - my first thought was that either the coin or collar has rotated during multiple strikes but the obverse and reverse don't show any signs of doubling and I don't know if the collar can rotate.
