"Ohio House restores coin exemption"

COLUMBUS — "Ten years after killing it in the wake of the Coingate scandal, the Ohio House on Wednesday voted 81-14 across party lines to restore a sales-tax exemption for Ohioans who purchase rare coins and precious metal bullion"

That would certainly be welcome news. Hopefully gov. Kasich doesn't veto like he did last time. If this becomes law then perhaps some major coin shows will come back to Ohio.

Sounds like the governor is going to use his veto again when this passes. What a shame.

Quote:

COLUMBUS — A bill to restore a sales tax exemption for precious metal purchases repealed a decade ago in the wake of the Coingate scandal is expected to reach Gov. John Kasich's desk this week.

With no mention of the scandal, the House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved the bill. But first it tightened its focus on precious metals such as gold, silver, and palladium, keeping the tax on coins purchased for their potential value as collectibles.

Too bad about the language narrowing the exemption to exclude collectable coins but still this passing would be very welcome to Ohio resident stackers.

Hopefully the Ohio legislature will be able to override that RINO Kasich's veto. Having a sales tax on investments is just dumb.
