"The man answered an ad listed on Craigs List that advertised the purchase of gold/valuable coins.

He told the man who posted the ad that his name was "John," and agreed to meet and let him verify the validity of the coins at a local coin shop"

Sounds like the victim talked his own way out of his own money.

isn't greed a wonderful thing? Sometimes you deserve exactly what you get. no sympathy from this corner at all. STAY away from Craigslist and such when it comes to buying coins and precious metals. The crooks are just waiting for the right greedy pig to come along and score a monster deal. When you buy precious metals or collectible coins do it right and do not cut corners. Deal with a reputable company or dealer , get an invoice, pay all the applicable taxes and store your material only where you or your loved ones have access. For the hundredth time on this forum Santa Claus is not a part of numismatics, or the Tooth Fairy, or the Easter Bunny.
Do it right and there is not much of a chance you will have a problem like this fool.

I agree with you 100% Pacificoin!!

Still it's a sad world we live in that there are people out there taking advantage of others like this...
Rest in Peace
