Glad that "seller" is off the streets.

Most likely the pawn shop was originally elated that the "seller" happily accepted their quick, lowball pawnshop offer and were glad to see him quickly exit the store. As the pawn shop clerks were high fiving each other celebrating their "rip", one of them probably decided to do a little bit better exam of the coins, and low-and-behold, they discovered they had bought counterfeit coins.

The time to check the merchandise is when it is presented to you for consideration, not after the seller exits the store.

Those look like the cheap Chinese copies floating around on ebay. I found one a while back. They're bad fakes. They weigh 24 grams, they don't ring, and worst of all, they're MAGNETIC!

If you don't know what to look for, you can get ripped off.

I was talking to a local pawn shop owner around me and he told me about a guy who brought in a whole bag of Morgan silver dollars. He said he offered the guy an amount, started to do the write it up and then decided to check them with a magnet..every one stuck.

Somewhat, yes. I've purchased all my silver from one LCS and one reputable online PM dealer. I'm not worried about the online retailer and I'd like to think the LCS is up-and-up; they'd be out of business fast if they weren't. But there's always that nagging doubt that maybe someone sold them a good fake and they turned it around and sold to me without knowing.

I may go through my stash with a magnet just to rule that possibility out.
