Hello guys this is my first post in the forums. I hope you are all well and also hope you can help me out a bit here. I had the opportunity to look at these coins today (via an elderly relative of a friend) and suspect they are pretty old. As the title suggests I have my own suspicions but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Germungus: to the CCF! The second coin is definitely from the area from Iran to Northern India, with the Farsi script.

to the community. I agree the first coin is from the Seleukid Kingdom, If you can provide larger pictures we might be able to read the reverse legend and pin down the ruler for you.

The first looks to be a coin of king Antiochus of Syria , we need better pics to identify because there are 12 or 13 kings named Antiochus.albert

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I have a DSLR that I will take into work with me on Monday and I will take some better images. I hate to be vulgar but what kind of value would these coins have? I know so much is dependent on condition etc and both of them look pretty bashed and worn but I suppose it is inevitable after so many years.
Thanks again and as I said I will upload better images on Monday.
Ger.
edit: Would it help if I got hold of them for a day and measured/weighed them? I am pretty sure they are silver as they are heavy for their size.
edit 2: I just spoke to my friend who says that his relative was told they are from Antiochus II by some coin collector many years ago.

if it is Antiochus II Theos then on the reverse you see Apollo setting left on an omphalos and examining an arrox and resting his hand on a grounded bow . With better pics ,with clear monograms and the weight and the measures , we can also determine the mint.albert

Hello again guys. I have a few more images and information about these 2 coins. This was the best I could do with the time available to me today. The Seleucid coin is (approximately) 1.7cm x 1.4cm and comes in at 4g in weight. the Arabic coin is (approximately again) 2.1cm x 1.7cm and weighs 5.4 g.

Based on the legend and from what I can tell from the bust, IMO the coin is of Antiochos Hierax 246-227 BC.

Thanks for the reply echizento. Are you confident enough for me to tell the owner that!? ;-)
Can anyone tell me where to go with the other coin with Farsi script on it?
Thanks again guys for the help. A very interesting forum.

Your Islamic coin is from the Persian Qajar dynasty issued under Sultan Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar (ruled CE 1848-1896), Tabriz mint.
