Well the camera obviously moved during the shot, the entire image has motion blur so everything will appear wider.

Oh, ok. I see now. Maybe they will write back when the dealer says something.

I think it's awesome that this forum does so much to police counterfeits on e-bay. It's good awareness on a big issue and it is helping me spot what to look for in counterfeits.

However, this kind of bothers me. The title of thread is "this could be up there with 1 of the worst fake 1909 s-vdb's" and then I see a listing of a coin that looks pretty genuine to me based on the 3 blurry pictures we have for evidence. Saying it's one of the worst fakes out there is a bit gratuitous.

Yeah I think it would be a terrible decision to buy this raw coin off of e-bay based on three blurry pictures, but I don't think that means we should involve this private seller in what could be dangerously similar to a counterfeit coin witch-hunt.

The pictures are absolutely horrible. The best evidence of this being a fake is the VDB.

You need to display a higher level of academic rigor, Drew.

Let's not bring up what happened with the 1913 D quarter. That was ridiculous, Dave.

I am a VISUAL learner. If you see something, point it out. Don't publicly embarrass me on the forums and punish me for it.

Sure, it's becoming a litany but what you don't understand is that hundreds of people come across these forum posts. What I'm seeing here, the date and relief is completely off. Also notice the thickness of the edges on both sides.

The dead giveaway is that the detail, such as "In God We Trust" is too clear, it's not the same font you see on a normal '09 S VDB. I can't exactly describe it.

Notice this, and almost a dead giveaway with fakes.

The fields. There's a concentration of scratches on lincoln's head, but it's spotless in the fields. Plus the VDB is off. It's (The start of the B) supposed to line up with the gap that's between "M" and the "E" in America. If you draw a line, it'll reach exactly ON the "B" or in the middle of the B I guess.

I don't know what you seem to expect from me. I'm only several years older than SSK is. I'm not 60.

Maybe I'm wrong, that's a possibility. I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just describing MHO.

The title was too much of an exaggeration, my bad.

Is there any good books to read or webpages to check out that go indepth on Counterfeit Detection in regards to 1909 S VDB's?

PCGS has a great MM location thing and shape of the punch diagram. It will possibly help a little. I don't know if there is a better thing. It also describes the middle bar of B in V.D.B.

Here is another great resource. Not a lot of info but some good info.

I remember seeing a line across (in the form of a picture) from where the "B" in VDB correlates with the "E" in America. I can't recall if it was on here or what.

This is absolutely a fake. The tips of both wheat stalks are rounded, where they should be pointed. This is one of the main diagnostics for Counterfeit Detection.

The debate is over
