I just thought of something that would look really cool. Get a new coin that you want to use as a pocket peice, take a picture every day of the coin for a long time, put the pictures together to make a time lapse of the coin wearing down. I don't know if any videos are out there but I just had the idea.

I like the idea. It would be more fun than the "look at how I aged over the year" videos!

You should pick up a MS-69 2015 ASE and crack it out! See how long it takes to get to P01!

I don't take a picture everyday of my pocket piece 1992-S proof ASE, but once every couple of months. Thread can be found here:

However, with wear starting in earnest due to lowered rims and sharing space with a copper medal, I might give this a try for a month to see how it turns out. Just need to get a set up where I can take consistent pictures.

Glue an ASE sized airtight to a piece of wood then mark the location where your camera tripod legs and lights go?

Drop the ASE into the airtight and do your picture thing. Good to go!

This is a really great idea, SSK! I'm sure someone using the right software could make this look spectacular.

I think starting with a high grade coin would be fun, so you could see it wear down through all the MS grades and beyond. I believe it would take decades for an MS-69 coin to wear to PO-01, so that's really not an attainable goal for the near future.

However, you could have a separate pocket piece which you could start out at maybe VF or so; that wouldn't take so long to wear down to PO-01.

Every day is going to be a bit much. Monthly or weekly it's not a bad idea. I never have the follow through!

Close, but not quite what you want - here's a multi-step animated image I made of the ultrasonic cleaning of an Iraqi riyal.
