Hi guys,

I have this tiny gold coin, which was certified by PCGS as BG-881, but after a tip from a specialist in this type of coins it seems, that it is a BG-884.

Interestingly teh BG-884 is described usually as an overdate (personally I can not see any 8 here), and a higher valuation (at least according to the PCGS coin value service). Otherwise I see much more BG-884 certified than BG-881.

I am wondering which one is more rare and if anyone agrees with me, that there is no overdate evident here (but still I think, that this must be a BG-884 as the expert stated in his opinion).

Here are the pictures:

I can not verify any varieties but PCGS does not guarantee the attribution like ANACS does. So I would just label it with the correct, if not already, attribution.

881 and 884 are the same die pair, and the overdate is pretty crude, just as seen here. For my money, this is 884 and values are probably weird simply from inconsistent demand. There are apparently more 881's in slabs but the total count doesn't exceed 50 in either case.

I'm no expert here but your piece looks like a BG-884 to me. Here's one from Heritage archives that's attributed 884 and looks like yours.

881 and 884 are the same die pair,

If they are the same die pair, they should be the same variety and one needs to be delisted.

PCGS does not guarantee the attribution like ANACS does.

PCGS does guarantee their attributions now (although I don't know how they settle the problem) NGC still does not guarantee their attributions.
