jasondeg Valued Member Canada 100 Posts	Posted 12/30/2007 9:18 pm Hi everyone, I've been collecting for about 4 years and the way I mostly found my coins, was by asking my family if I could go trough their spare change. I live about 2.5 hours drive from the nearest coin shop, so it can take a while to built up my collection. If anyone has any other methods of finding coins, please post them here! Sap Moderator Australia 16806 Posts	Posted 12/30/2007 10:27 pm There's always ebay and other online sources, of course, though if you're after bulk coinage to sort through and cherrypick, the postage can be a killer. Try your local bank, especially a bank you hold an account at. People hand in NCLT and foreign coins and notes to banks all the time, and sometimes foreign coins mixed in with "proper" coins don't get noticed until later. It doesn't hurt to ask at the bank what they do with their "strange money"; you might be able to come to an arrangement where they keep it aside for you. You'll often see donation moneyboxes placed by charities in local businesses etc. Contact the charity and ask them what they do with their "strange money"; unless they've got volunteers or staff who are coin collectors, they won't have a clue what to do with it themselves. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
SHAFTA9a Bedrock of the Community Canada 10743 Posts	Posted 12/31/2007 06:18 am Hi, jasondeg, Sap is right go to your bank get rolls of cents, and/or nickels, Start with them go through them and see what you can find. I just went through 20 rolls of nickels and found quite a few older ones,also call your local school sometimes they have penny drives and will sell you their pennies rather then take them to the bank. I'm lucky enough to have a couple reputable coin shops in the area too. Trust your gut. I keep a list of the coins I'm looking for, including market value ( can be a long list ) Works for me. I've found a couple good deals I couldn't buy because I didn't carry enough cash or didn't have enough to begin with. Anybody know any get-rich-quick schemes that work? Good hunting!
