While I now primarily collect US coins from 1900-present, I have also for years had a sizeable foreign collection. There was very little organization to it; it was just basically a hodge-podge of whatever my relatives gave me (one aunt in particular, from her years as a nurse in the USN, stationed in various places around the world, and also a frequent cruise traveler). I've finally narrowed the foreign stuff down to something I want to focus on: coins featuring the British monarch, as I've always been somewhat of an Anglophile, and coins featuring the image of the Pope. In particular, my interests lie in British coins from the £sd era. While going through my foreign collection tonight to start organizing it, as I was setting aside coins with the Monarch, I couldn't help but think of just how far reaching the influence of the Monarchy has been in the past, and even continues to be today.

Off my soapbox now. There's nothing of notable value here, but I'll throw some pictures up when I get it organized.

I am in Canada right now on vacation - sorry, on "holiday" and my son asked why the queen was on all of the coins. Tradition, I said, and a nod to history as well. He is having quite a good time with the notes and coins, spending as we go about.

I have a small Canadian, Australian and British collection and enjoy seeing the progression of the monarchy too.

Some might say that the British monarchy is one of the world's first and most enduring "brands". Even here in the U.S. there is quite a lot of interest, especially with the new great-grandchildren.

I will watch for the pics!

After exploring a wide variety of coins it's quite satisfying to identify an area of collecting interest to explore in greater depth. Congrats! Look forward to seeing what you put together.

Coins with the Queen and her predecessors can be quite extensive, in fact all over the planet! Enjoy!
