I've posted this coin before but wasn't able to get good photos. These buggers are hard to take pictures of. What throws me off with this guy is that it doesn't have the normal dull look of a cleaned coin. The pictures really don't do it justice, it has a full pinwheel luster. Also, it seems to only have worn on one side. I know these dates are notorious for weak strikes, what do you think? Thanks

Something always threw me off with this coin. It's amazing that the owner of my LCS couldn't pinpoint it either. What makes you think it's whizzed? Thanks

I've looked at the coin very closely under 20x magnification and see no evidence of whizzing marks. By that I mean hairlines in any direction. Is it possible it was sandblasted?

I'll agree with weak strike, but I'd say 63 or even better. Nice coin.

Come on guys, it's a textbook case for whizzing (whatever specific technique was used doesn't really matter to me, it's been 'played with' in a major way).

From the photos certainly looks whizzed... Many times with whizzed/polished coins there is a shine that can easily be mistaken for cartwheel luster... This one could be particular tricky because it has since retoned a bit

When I first looked at this coin this morning my initial reaction was polished. The effigy, especially around the neck, just doesn't look right.

Always appreciate the opinions guys. Anyone care to guess what methods were used? I'm taught to look for hairlines as a telltale sign. Others who looked at it knew something was up but couldn't put their finger on it. Someone even offered to buy it the day I brought it in. This thing fooled some pretty experienced collectors who had it in hand.

Also of note, this was bought from a very trusted seller of mine and I've never had a problem yet.
