This is just a guess but my thoughts go to a replica Saint-Gaudens that was possibly in a man's ring or a necklace. Someone will be along and be able to tell you soon.

It's a miniature token that mimics the design of a $20 gold Saint Gaudens double eagle. Given the significant size difference, it isn't intended to deceive. It appears to be a curiosity piece intended to amuse with little value beyond amusement. It's definitely not solid gold and the chances of it being gold electroplated are pretty slim.

Thanks, hoped it was gold but didn't expect it to be. I'll look up information on st. Garden double eagle just to satisfy my curiosity.

These little "gold miniatures" were very popular down in Mexico in the mid-20th century, where they made jewellery (rings, earrings etc) out of them. Some were made of debased gold (8k or so) while others are just gilt brass. Given that the "gold" seems to be wearing away on the high points of yours, I'd assume yours is not one of the solid gold versions.

They have a number of replicas of the gold coins from California also you can find them on ebay, Some of the sellers try to pass them off as "gold" coins. Can't find the pics of the ones I have pulled from the bargain boxes. All under $1.00 most in the .50 ones.

Here is the one pic of a other gold coin and regular US coins compared to a State Quarter.
