I'm looking at this solid silver medal and according to the owner, they cannot find any information that shows this minted in silver. Any information on this would be appreciated.

Great piece, regardless of whether or not it's silver. Very popular design among collectors. There are many as yet unlisted pieces from the 1800's.
Balance it on the tip of your finger and gently strike the rim with a silver coin. If the witch has a sustained ring, she's silver. This is the "ping" test.

I've liked that piece since I first saw that design as well.
Unfortunately, many pieces like this will remain unlisted unless there is someone out there constantly searching for and publishing newly discovered varieties. You may want to report this one to the guy that runs the Lovett tokens and medals website, but I don't know if he's activily updating it or not.
Congrats on a very nice piece. The Lovett medals are a very interesting area of numismatics.

A VERY INTERESTING MEDAL :)
I am stupid or what... but what she has in her right hand? A hammer?
Any idea of the mintage of these medals? Any known actual values? Known fakes?

Thank you ExoGuy, ErrorCoins22, mackwork and koinpro, I appreciate the information, web site and input. Unfortunately I didn't make the purchase on this, I agree with mackwork that it's white metal and it went for $1200, I liked it but not that much. I'm sorry filip I know probably as much as you about these medals, however I do love the design and I will educate myself more on Lovett.

I thought I would comment as I am now the owner of this piece, and the owner of the Lovett website. It turns out to be a German silver version of this token, 68.85% copper, 21.75% zinc, 9.58% nickel. Rulau does not list this or the silver version but the ANS Collection has a silver version and an auction from 1863 mentions silver and German silver. I know nothing of mintages but copper and brass pieces I would call somewhat scarce with white metal ones more elusive. German silver and silver are definitely rare.

Thanks for the update, daveb. Cool piece. IMHO, all Lovett pieces qualify as rare, as do counterstamps and the vast majority of 19th century tokens. Guess it all depends on what the definition of "rare" is, eh what?
The Lovett website is a great place to visit, what with the beautiful tokens and fine info. It serves as a most worthy tribute to a true artist. Thanks for sharing, daveb, and welcome to the CCF!

Thanks for the comment ExoGuy. My goal is to someday write the catalog on the Lovett's but as you probably know that is quite the undertaking. I still "discover" new pieces every year. The website is the work in progress for the catalog. So for anyone who has information they would like to share, or questions, you can contact me through the website directly. And always looking for images of pieces I do not have.

I think the link between your program and mine is the problem, ExoGuy, as I am still getting emails. Try going directly to dave@lovetttokensmedals.com. And I just picked up the silver version of this token at the ANA!
