Has anyone tried or found a successful and undamaging way to remove some of the RCM coins that are encased in resin in bookmarks, collector cards etc?

Some of the ones I have are the mascot coins from the 2010 Olympics and a few others like the 2006 breast cancer quarter, etc. (I've already destroyed one of the 2006 ones!)

In some cases, over time, it looks like the resin begins to yellow.

I removed a loonie from the stuff by dropping it in boiling water. Took a bit longer than I expected but eventually came off easy. Haven't dared try it with a coloured coin though as I've heard the colour comes off as well. Is that what happened to yours?

Lucite? Sure, that works. :)

I didn't use the boiling water method, although it crossed my mind. I was worried about the colour too. I tried using a zip knife to carefully cut near the edges and ended up scoring the coin face a bit. I still have the damaged one so may do the boiling water method and see what happens to the colour as a test.

I can remove the 2004 Poppy bookmark coins, but the 2006 proof Olympic loon has been a tough one... I thought about taking it into work and giving it a liquid nitrogen bath

SPP-Ottawa....your suggestion of cold (nitrogen) seems to work on my trial lucite coin...I tried sticking it in the fridge freezer section, forgot about it and a few days later knocked it to the floor when I was reaching for something else. It was on a poppy coin from a bookmark and both sides of the lucite popped off. A small bit of the colour on the poppy also came off.

More testing required!
