Hi. What is the weight limit for a copper penny? Is there a tolerable deviation + or - ? I just started weighing some pennys and I found this 1971D that weights 3.30? Any help on this subject would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! So if it's suppose to be 3.11 and it's 3.30 that would be +.19? Do I spend it?

Spend if you need to. Myself I'd keep a rolled thick at 3.30grams 1 cent until I found one rolled thicker.

Another point to ponder is the US mint was supposedly minting Foreign Planchets this year. Having a hard time nailing down specific specifications of mints, date and size.

Found the Philippines listed that year, but brass blanks so far are listed as smaller not larger.

Thanks, Doug.

I don't know anyone who would pay for a cent that is .06 grams over the limit.

I'd keep it just for the heck of it.

It's highly unlikely to be on a foreign planchet but you can look here: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/..._Figures.xls

So it's not even a 5% variance, sorry I thought 10% sounded too high. I've got to imbed this in my brain because I keep forgetting that number!
