Hi guys,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum!
Just looking for a bit of advice really - I was given a 2014 commemorative WW1 £2 coin in amongst change while shopping. I thought it seemed unusual so kept a hold of it. Ive had a quick google and it seems they never went into circulation & were only release as a collectors piece. I dont have a clue about anything to do with this kind of thing so just wandered what you think I should do with it, if anything at all! Thanks in advance!

No, they were released onto circulation. I believe there were 100 of them with the old, non-smiling, portrait of the queen, you probably have the new 2015 onwards portrait of the queen. Though someone also said something about Chinese fakes, not sure if it was with this coin or not.

The mint haven't released the figures yet but they were certainly released in the millions.

I was thinking the ship one, I don't live in the UK and got one of those from circulation when I was back last at xmas. They definitely circulate and in bigger numbers than previous years.

There are quite a few about at the moment. From my experience, it seems that commemorative coins vanish from circulation after a short while, so if you do intend to collect, put one by.

Don't get conned by so-called error coins on ebay. There are some of those Kitchener coins where the legend "your country needs" is unreadable. You can still find those in change at the moment.

I've had 3 or 4 of the 2014 WW1 Kitchener £2 coins in change.
