I got both of these coins out of a junk silver box for melt but the one on the right looks like a proof.......... any thoughts?

(Also, I am new to this forum)

I don't want to say either way. The obverse does look pretty darn weakly struck to be a proof but I am not an expert on this series.

This is probably a Chrome Die strike.

I Google Imaged some proof sixpences sold by Drake Sterling.

Unfortunately, all of their offerings are slabbed, and that makes their photography rather irritating, and when variable lighting complicates, it makes it hard to see what a proof sixpence should really look like.

I have seen an absolute gem 1951 PL sixpence that was taken from circulation by dealer decades ago, and had mirror fields. He said that it was NOT a proof.
That was before the advent of slabs.

I just took this image of my PR67 1956 proof 6d as a comparison for you.
I am pretty certain your coin is from a Chrome die and not a Proof coin

Very hard to tell from your photos if its a proof , some characteristics to look for nice square rims and proofs often have wire line on the edge of the rim , nice rounded beading and denticles , a mirror like surface , and a great strike

Nice proof there trout

Emu feathers on high points very indistinct.
Compare this feature with the example posted by trout.
