How can I change the name of my current avatar?

Currently listed with my sir name, would like to change to my username "Halo1st" or my dogs name "Halo"

Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Doug.

The avatar names are the names of image files when we upload them; they are not changed and don't need to be. You are the only one who can see it in your avatar list anyway

xshift, thanks for help.

Like you say individual user created avatars only show as available for or on each users avatar list.

I just thought it being a .gif tucked away under my user profile could be renamed by the owner/user or system administrator.

Like your avatar I see its named xshift1, and believe that's how it shows under your avatar list. All it takes is right click and save as to see the default name.

Since its available to the world to download is why I'd like it to show my current username like yours does, instead of my sir name.

I know this is a case of low priority as I used to be a system administrator for one of the worlds largest oil and gas retrieval companies. I could only imagine if we got daily requests from any of the 10,000+ employees to rename avatars.

My case is my username was changed, but somehow this avatar got stuck with old username.

If nothing else I'll resubmit avatar again and see what happens and not use this one. Thanks, Doug.

That's why I made sure to tell you that you are the only one who can see it in the avatar list.

Mine was apparently never set that way, but yours is. I can't see it in my list, for example.

If you resubmit an avatar it does not overwrite the old one. You'd just have 2.

xshift, thanks again, but guess I didn't explain properly.

Thought I agreed with that. I'm not referring to the avatar list, but rather the avatar itself as seen by the world.

I believe yours is set the same in that its only visible to you on your list as mine is only visible to me on my list. Thought administrators would have the capability to view/modify all.

That's why I asked if I could just rename the current one. What good would two with the same name be? It seems to be protocol to name an avatar after the username followed by 1 then 2 then 3 and so on.

The point is its not the avatar list that I'm referring to, it the avatar itself when used in replies or post shows or has my old user name associated with it. That is what I'm trying to change.

Look to the left at any avatar. If you right click mine, yours or any avatar and choose save as, they show the name of the .gif or file type that it was created and saved as on the system.

I know it only takes up approx. 10KB of space, but why have two of the same if the one could be easily changed was my point? Thanks, Doug.

I see now. Although a bit of a stretch to say "as seen by the world" as it would only be those who saved your avatar who would see the name, and while I'm sure some have thought of it, it's probably a very low percentage.

It's not an easy change. There's actually no way for me to change the name or delete the file, as it's been so long that I can't get to it. Admin would have to go find it and do it. Since this is bothering you I'll just reupload the icon with your current user name.

Thanks xshift. I appreciate your help and patients.

Now when I post my million dollar coin, I won't have to worry about my ex or salesman or the tax man or who knows in todays world coming after me. At least not right away. Thanks, Doug.
