Purity: 0.9250

Diameter: 37.00 mm

Weight: 24.00 grams

Mintage: 8,000

background info:
In a joint venture with the Croatian National Bank, the Central Bank of Ireland launched a new silver collector coin to commemorate the work of the Croatian sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic.

Ivan Mestrovic submitted a design for the first coinage of the Irish Free State in 1927. He was based in the United States and, due to the communication challenges of the time, his design arrived too late for consideration. However, the design was subsequently adopted by the Central Bank as its official seal.

Mestrovic was a sculptor, an architect, a writer and a participant in important political events of his day. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Art in the early nineteen hundreds at the height of the Vienna Secession movement. He was awarded the grand prix for sculpture at the 1911 World Exhibition in Rome. And from 1923 to 1942, he was Dean of the Zagreb Academy of Arts.
The coin is encapsulated and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity, presentation case and outer box.

Croatia is issuing a 150 kuna coin as part of this joint effort and ECI expects to offer this issue later in 2007.

i hope a topic about this coin wasnt made already, I couldnt find it in the search.

The reason why I'm posting this is because a few days ago, I purchased one of these, in its case as seen above.
my coin is #3,822

i paid €70 for it.
do you think the price I paid was fair?

it really is a beautiful coin.

Neat. Any idea yet what the Croatian counterpart will look like?

It's tough to tell. Krause lists the price as $65, but I think that is probably a little low. The only way to really gauge what it is worth is watch ebay auctions like this one and see what happens:

well, the croatian counterpart was released around october I believe. the coin dealer who I bought the irish version from, also had the croatian version, to be honest I cant remember whats its design is.
I saw so many coins for sale by him that day that I could have stayed there for hours looking at them!

the croatian mintage figure for their coin is 10,000.
there is also a limited edition presentation box, in which both of the coins were in the box, only 1000 exist.
and the coin dealer was selling one, number #788 according to the cert with it. the asking price was €150, or $200 or £100 sterling.
I'm kinda annoyed at myself, for not buying it, I found it too much money at the time, if only I was out of college and had a permanent job, i'd buy it no prob!
if I find a pic of the croatian version, I will post it.

@snowman: thanks for the info, maybe I paid too much so but at this stage I dont care, just delighted I have one of them.
also thanks for the ebay link, will watch it!
