As far as Roman is concerned, I prefer to collect late Roman coinage (I know, I'm weird), but I could not pass up this As of Domitian with its very nice remaining detail. I hope the scraping off of his name (and perhaps also that worn down scratch going across his bust) was some damnatio attempt but its probably just simply accidental damage.

Domitian, Roman Empire
AE as
Obv: IMP CAES DIVI F DOMITIAN AVG P M, laureate head right
Rev: TR P COS VIII DES VIIII P P, Minerva advancing right, brandishing javelin in right hand and holding shield in left hand, S-C in fields
Mint: Rome (struck 82 AD)
Ref: RIC 87

Beautiful olive green patina. My favorite denomination too ! The As was my first love. When I started collection in 1977 the sestertius was a coin I rarely found in my price range. Back in the late 'stone age' before the internet I don't think many affordable ones made it across the Atlantic. Domitian can be tough too as there are many strange looking portraits that just don't appeal to me.
This one is pleasing though despite the scrape marks.
I once pondered a coin with scrapes and let my imagination wander.
Perhaps some young person impatiently waiting for his father while he haggles over the price of a used chariot, playing with the coin he wants to spend on sweets in the forum has scrapped it on the stone steps of the 'Saturn' dealership.

Great coin, VK. That nose on Domitian would even give an Arsakes family member a run (runny nose?) for his money!
Fantastic profile.

Some beautiful Romans on the board today.

very nice VK...phat and green!

how big is it by the way? curious minds want to know.

like FR...when I see old damage like that, my mind tends to conjure up some stories about how it happened.
