Well, I'm not a cob person, but until one comes along...
I see a 4 between the bases of the two pillars, for a four reales. Between the crowns of the two pillars is a P, for the Lima mint. This style was only struck there during the first three years of the mint's operation, 1568-71, placing this coin among the very first struck in South America.

Thanks for replying, Philadelphian! So you are saying the P stands for Lima (the mint) and not the Assayer?

The P here stands for the Viceroyalty of Peru, which until 1718 covered all of South America except Venezuela and Portugal's Brazil, and had its capital (and, until the one in Potosí opened in 1574, its only mint) in Lima. The assayer's initial should be to the left of the shield, and will likely be an R, for Rincon.

You nailed it, Philidelphian! Upon further inspection, there is an "R" to the left of the shield (see photo below). So the cob was made at the Lima mint 1568-1570, "P" standing for the Lima mint. and the 'R" for the Assayer, Alonso de Rincon. Many thanks for your help in identification!

Now that identification is settled, I wonder the worth considering the condition. I'll have to look around the internet.
