A while back I got a Dansco Lincoln Cent album, and my complete collection of Memorial cents was suddenly 3 short - missing the date size varieties of the 1960-P, 1960-D and 1970-S. I already had the varieties for the 1982. I noticed on the Lincoln Cent Resource site that 1974 P,D and S all have date size varieties as well. Why did these three not get included in albums when the other kinds did? It just struck me as odd, and I am curious as to the reason (if any is known). Edited by John Paul 07/12/2015 11:55 pm

I'm curious why in 1982 they have holes for copper and zinc, but they don't have the same for 2009?

The 1982 copper and zinc were made for circulation and the 2009 copper was not made for general circulation. John1

Looking at the LCR site, to me, there is hardly any difference between the 2 varieties. (Even less than a regular lg/sm year.) It seems likely that they decided that it wasn't significant enough of a difference to include in the album.

This has been discussed here before. They should be included in the album but are not. The mintages for both varieties are close to the same, so one is just as easy to find as the other.

For what it is worth, the 1974 varieties are not listed in the Red Book. Dansco likes to include the more popular varieties.

Honestly, I would think that a major company like Dansco would be what makes some varieties more popular than others. If they include it in their albums then it will become popular.

I still wouldn't be bothered to get them even if Dansco told me I needed them for what they'd consider to be a set. I don't want or own a 192 plain cent, but Dansco says I need one. If nothing else, people can get the blank "cents" pages and make their own set with the 1974 varieties in it. As for me and my set, we are happy as we are.

All cents minted for proof and mint sets in 2009 were 95% copper.

I personally consider large/small date differences to be for the error and variety type collectors (I realize they aren't errors). I don't think they should include it for any years.
Just goes to show that whatever they do, they won't please everyone.....
