My Grandpa gave me a bunch of Wheat penny's, and I don't know why there is a B stamped on the back of this one. Does anyone know where it came from? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

It looks like a counter stamp. It's when someone stamps on a letter, symbol, etc onto coins. Sometimes it's for a good reason, sometimes it's for the fun of it.
Great find though! I still have yet to find one myself.
There are lots of members on here that collect them. I'm sure they will show you some other great examples and maybe one of them might know what the stamp means! Who knows? :)

Perhaps it's just coincidence but I had also came across a 1903 Wheat penny with a "B" stamped on it, only difference is that it's on the Heads side. I'm not sure what it means and it's probably random and doesn't mean anything at all...

There are so many counterstamps that it is highley unlikely they are related. Some people collect counterstamped coins I personally don't but there is a small market for it for sure. I will keep them if I find them but I won't particularly hunt for them and certainly wont pay for them
