Just wondering how many people here metal detect on the beaches? I have been at the beach this week and I started talking to a guy that was metal detecting on the beach. He said he had just found a $3200 gold Tiffany ring the day before and one of his buddies found a ring with 12 small diamonds. He also said you would be surprised on what people lose everyday on the beach.

I asked him how much his detector cost and he told me he had a little over 2K in his but the water and salt would not bother it at all.

Needless to say, he was probably glad when I walked away because I was asking all sorts of questions. He was nice enough to answer them all and I learned alot!

In Ocean Park, Maine the 'sweepers' are out every morning. No idea about their finds.

Unfortunately, no beaches near me.
Am sure finds like that are made, slippery sun tan oil, rings, watches, jewelry flung from a towel.
Old losses turned up by the tide.
Sounds like fun!

I used to go to the beaches all the time until I moved inland
After a storm, you could find tons of coins, jewelry, fishing weights, pop tops, bottle caps, and many other random things.

After seven years in this hobby, I can say ive hit the beaches - never -

The bling just doesn't interest me a bit. That's not why I got into the hobby. I love coins and relics and the history behind them.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72

When I lived in the UK I did all my detecting on beaches - mostly looking for coins, but occasionally found gold and silver (and lots of ring pulls).

If you can discover the right spots for yourself you can find a wealth of treasures. The only problem now is that more and more people are in to daily sweeping on the main beaches.

Youtube has lots of instructive info.
