Maybe has something to do with this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lajes_Field

Would make scenes because it has a plane on it.

AOM could be short for "Aircraft Operations Maintenance" then. By the way, might the side with the plane be upside down?

It appears to be in the style of American military canteen tokens of the 1960's and 1970's. I've posted a couple of my Vietnam military tokens here before, and they look similar. I can't find the old thread, but the pics are still in my downloads:

What-Means-A.o.m?

I believe "O.M." in these instances is normally short for "Officer's Mess", with "A" presumably "Air" or "Airmen".

Lahej is a base used by US personnel, so this seems the most obvious choice.

jsalgado,

I would offer A.O.M. refers to "Airman's Open Mess" ... what we old Air Force relics call the "chow hall". The "EM" on Saps tokens refers to "Enlisted Mess". The Officers Mess and Enlisted Mess were "clubs". The AOM was strictly for eating.
