I picked up this 1837 coronet that a friend ID'd as a "Newcomb-1" variety listed as "scarce" on coinfacts...although I admittedly am not for sure what that means. I know the variety designation entails "medium letters", but am clueless as to how scarce "scarce" actually is.
The coin has (obviously) been cleaned to death. Possibly whizzed? I don't expect it's worth much considering the state. Any thoughts as to rarity/value are much appreciated.
