Upon first glance I assumed it was middle eastern perhaps? The age of the coin and the wearing away of the characters doesn't make it easy to identify. I thought that maybe the star and crescent-like shape on one side meant it could be from Turkey but I haven't been able to find a picture of it. Regarding the pictures that I provided, as I mentioned the coin is quite worn so even if I could get a better picture it would not likely help.

Fortunately, we've seen enough of these pieces posted on the forum beofre to be able to identify it: it's a bridge token for use on the Galata Bridge, Istanbul, Turkey.

The tokens have a face value of 20 para, and in the years immediately following the collapse of the Ottoman Imperial government after WWI, the tokens "circulated" within the city as de-facto 20 para coins. So they are often found mixed in with other Ottoman Turkish coins. But because it's not an official coin, you won't find it listed in the coin catalogues.

Do a forum search for "Galata bridge token" and you'll find numerous other examples, such as this thread.
