Which ebay policy were they violating? Is it because they stated a numerical in the title without being certified by one their preferred foreign grading services? The one on kijiji will do much more harm to the hobby as it is a counterfeit, which may appear on ebay soon enough and if no grade is stated may be sold even though reported.

If I remember correctly, they had the PNG name in the title along with the numerical grade ... not sure what else.

Yes, that was it. They're finally enforcing it on Canadian sellers.

There are currently over 10,000 coins listed on ebay Canada with a numeric grade in the title, more than 5,000 are ICCS graded. Where's the problem? We don't tell you Americans who is fit to grade your coins, why do you want to force us to accept only US grading opinions ? The hobby in this country is dying why do the Americans wish to put another nail in the coffin? Why should ICCS take a back seat to the US TPGs?

Is is fair that a Canadian seller can ship to the US which puts their US rule breaking listing right next to a US sellers listing on ebay US that has to abide by the rule? If it's breaking an ebay US rule, it shouldn't be allowed on the ebay US site. Period. They've been letting Canadian sellers get away with it for years.

Quote:...breaking an ebay US rule, it shouldn't be allowed on the ebay US site I totally agree. It's simply a prerequisite en route to the desired result off promoting the practice of fair and balanced trade on both sides of the border;....wow, what an innovative pursuit

So, coins graded by ICCS (the wonderful American TPGs have a less-than-stellar rep for grading many Canadian coins ... that's just fact), the biggest grader of Canadian coins and certainly most respected, shouldn't be allowed in the title of all listings or just those listings listed through ebay.com (still permitted on ebay.ca)? Sounds brilliant.

approved grading companies To be an approved grading service on ebay, the grading company must, at minimum, meet the following objective criteria: The service has graded at least 50,000 pre-1956 coins. The service provides a live, online population report. There are at least 3 graders on staff who are considered numismatic experts. A numismatic expert is an individual who has been a full-time numismatist for at least 5 years. At least 1 of the graders should be a member of the Professional Numismatists Guild, and all 3 should be members of the American Numismatic Association. The service provides a written buyback guarantee for coins later determined to be counterfeit, damaged, misgraded, or misattributed. Slabbed coins must be encased in a unique, tamper resistant holder with anti-counterfeiting measures (such as a hologram or other method). The service enables online verification of unique serial numbers. http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/...871936420717*********** ebay's requirement for approved grading companies is very reasonable in my opinion. I place the blame on Canadian grading companies who don't progress with the times. Just last week I bought a very nice graded SD that was pushing itself out of the bottom of its ICCS holder. As consumers, why do we continue to support a company that houses expensive coin in shoddy, cheap plastic holders with no online verification service to determine authenticity? (Maybe the topic of ebay grading requirements deserves its own thread.)

It is quite simple. It is Ebays sandbox and if you do not like the rules do not play. A coin graded by a non approved grading company (ICCS) can be listed, but the numeric grade cannot be included in the title, description, or item specifics. You can include an image of the coin in its graded holder even if that image shows the grade on the holder. You would think that if ICCS is the most respected grading service of Canadian coins that the Norweb, Belzberg, Canadiana & the upcoming Beckman Sale among others would have been in ICCS flips. Each grading service has their niche in the market (or respect) for a number of reasons.

also, in regards to a person in Canada selling on ebay us, the person may have actually posted in on.ca, and ebay (not the seller) automatically shows it on .com this may have changed recently, but a few years ago this was standard practice.

The grading rule ONLY applies to listings listed DIRECTLY on ebay.com and is only enforced there. ICCS listings with numerical grades in the headers do not get bothered because most of them are listed on the ebay.ca site. Many world ebay sites have rules that differ from the "mother ship". Shipping and return policy rules would be another example.
