Could it be something stuck on the coin? Have you tried soaking in acetone?

Those are the best photos I have at the moment. Metal is missing from those spots on the coin. The "FB" is untouched.

The initials seem to be struck over it - but I'm not sure what I'm perceiving; is it raised or incuse on the coin?

I am thinking that it would almost have to be a struck though error, because if much metal were missing, we would see the Zinc showing through.

EDIT: Unless the metal was removed before the plating process.

I assume if it was a struck through error,!the designer initials, especially the B would be damaged?
