So a friend of my wife's family asked me to help look at her coins that her late husband had from his parents' shop (after she saw that we visited the New Orleans mint). She mentioned that she had a couple of silver dollars from the 1800s but I thought that was it. When I get there she had all of this!

She also had about 50 other Morgans/peace dollars and about $50 in regular change. That and all the bank-wrapped coins seem to be pre 1964 (based on the ends) and the coin purse was filled with Canadian silver coins. Also she had an 1899 silver certificate that is too large a file to upload (will fix soon in its own post). All in all, she had FMV at least $2400 worth of stuff! Plus for helping her she gave me this!

After giving me the large cent (now filling a hole in my 7070) she let me have first dibs at buying some of her coins! So for $114 total I got these!

Four of the six dollars still have catwheel lister and they are all beautiful coins! This was an amazing night and a very great opportunity to help out a friend who needed it!

Mister Kairu,
When you gave her the FMV is that for silver or collectible value?

For most of it I just gave her the silver melt value. The nicer Morgans I had told her between $30-$35 and the other Morgans/peace I told her $18. I was conservative with my estimates and it came out to around that much... Also didn't know anything about the silver certificate, Canadian silver, or OBW wheat pennies so those weren't included.

Oh most definitely. Since she knew my wife since she was a baby she wanted to give me a good deal on them too. Maybe should have gone for more of the lower grade ones since she gave me the two lower grade Morgans and the Peace dollar for $13 each. I paid $24 for the unc. looking Morgans each. Oh well maybe I can snag some more after we see where we are financially tomorrow... lol

That is awesome! Hey Mr. Kairu, are you studying to take the CPA exam? I saw you had some books for sale on ebay recently.

Yes I was Matt but due to being newly married and now with my 8 month old son I have taken a break from it and will have to get back into it eventually. Plus I have never really had to study for anything in school so this it was definitely a challenge. Got a 70 on AUD and 68 on BEC but maybe someday... lol

Keep trying, it's worth it! I used the exam matrix software and I was able to squeak out passing scores on my first go. This website was helpful too: http://www.another71.com Best of luck to you, man!

Looks like an 1899 $1 black eagle silver certificate at the top right in the first photo! Did he have anymore paper money?

Glad you got to help out and see it pay off!
