Can any one tell me why this coin weighs more than others made in that year and why this coin would be in such great condition when I notice most coins from the 1980,s are in poor condition. This coin is a double die in liberty and on back of coin as well. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you

In 1982 (and older cents+)cents were made out of zinc, 2.5 grams, and copper, 3.1 grams. You have a copper cent. It is on better condition because someone probably stored it for a long time and it did not circulate. We need close ups of the doubled deviced to determine if this is a doubled die.

In 1982 they made 7 varieties. See the link below.

You will need better pictures for anyone to review the potential doubled die.

Your question about condition is simple you were lucky enough to find a nearly uncirculated coin, or maybe it is BU. If you think about it if I owned a roll of uncirculated coins from 1982 I could release them into the wild and 50 lucky people would say why is this coin so old and looking so nice.

Can any one tell me the tricks of taking photos that close up. I am excited to show it. The double die is easy to see to the eye but hard to get in photo. I will post what I can get with my camera on my phone. The back of the coin has deep die cuts through the pillars like shown in the link. And The "I" in Liberty is easy to see the double but the "T" is very obvious. Almost as though its tripled. What is the best way to get a photo that close up? Please hel[ and thank you every one for the replies

I went to the bank and told the teller I wanted older rolls so she gave me $50 on old pennys rolls. Ive just begun my treasure hunt but in the same group I have also found (2) 1972 double dies back to back and the rolls were just filled with wheat coins as well. I am excited and have only just begun!
