Today I went to the bank to get some boxes and to my surprise they had a box of halves and I also picked up a box of pennies. When I was about to leave, I asked the teller if she had some dollar coins, she gave me a couple sacagwea dollars and Ike's.

I see many people hoard the Ike dollars, is there a reason why?

most banks don't have Ike dollars. You just typically don't see them in circulation

Because they are awesome!

Okay, I admit bias. I would listen to what others have to say.

Because they are hard to find at banks and in circulation and because they are large and shiny

I love them for the reverse.

Ike-Dollars

Haven't thought about it much, but probably the best reverse of all US coinage.

I like the reverse as well :)
So are they worth keeping even though they take a lot of space?

If you are worried about the space they take up I will gladly take them off your hands.

I seem to get Ikes weekly from the bank. They really don't do anything for me, but I keep the nicer ones. The rest I toss into a drawer until the one bigger coin show comes along. I then use them to trade for things I really want. Usually I get about 20 cents over face per coin. It's a better return on my money than letting it sit in a savings account.

I've nearly completed a set from circulation, I'm just missing the 1973D.
Whenever I find a bank that has any I get them and them save up the spares until I have 100 and then list the extras on ebay.
