It popped up in my header when I was looking at an auction and it stood out.

Some sort of weird PMD, almost like acid or something has eaten away the surface?

The obverse lettering has a fading effect almost to it.

Very strange.

That coin was possibly a ground find, long term burial can be rough on a coin depending on the soil conditions.

My LCS would sell this as a problem-fee EF or AU. I have resolved to never go there again.

Looks like a cleaned corroded coin. Open 3 I think....
