Hello, I'm new here but I would like someone to tell me about a quarter that I stumbled upon. It is a 2004 Washington D.C. quarter. It has the word "copy" engraved in Georges head and a picture of the U.S. capital and the Washington monument on the back. Would like some expert advice on where this might have came from seeing that the D.C. quarter is not supposed to be released until 2009.

Since it has "copy" stamped on it that means it was privately minted and it is not US Legal Tender. That is, it's just a novelty piece.

copy for a piece such as you describe is actually a mis nomer ,, it does not copy anything minted by the US mint ,but is actually a design from a private mint or company .

can you post pics of the token ?

I don't have a camera that will take a pic clear enough to see that well. It has all of the markings of a real quarter and under the "In God We Trust" a tiny S is present which I believe is the location of origin. On the back it has Washington D.C. 1791. It weighs .8 grams more than the recently released Utah quarter.
