I am thinking that this might just barely qualify as a keeper since the devices are starting over the edge (see the W in WE).

This coin weighs 2.30 g. Another 1978 I have weighs 2.27 g.

What are you thinking?

I was thinking thinned planchet. But with the weight about the same, I'm thinking a weak/low pressure strike. It looks like the dies are in VLDS. So that might affect the clarity of the strike. The weakness of the deepest die devices (the tallest on the coin led me to that conclussion. There is not hint of design on the torch and the hair is as bald as an Ike dollar.

Thanks, coop - also has some MD on forehead and on some letters on REV.

Are you saying VLDS and Weak Strike rather than MAD? (Or in addition to MAD?)

It maybe all three. The weakness of the rims was hiding the MAD.

Thanks - glad I posted this - wasn't going to, but learned by doing it.
