Nero (54-68). Æ Sestertius , 32mm

NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P

Lugdunum, c. 65. Laureate head r., globe at point of neck. R/ Annona standing r., holding cornucopia, facing Ceres seated l., holding grain-ears and torch; modius on garlanded altar between them, ship's stern behind.

This rather rare coin certainly holds history and looks as if it comes from an old collection. very nice acquisition!

i like coins, where I can see. They have a life!!!! and not perfect
RIC I 390.

You have a nice collection of sestertius. This one has a bit of environmental damage but still a nice coin. I like the reverse design.

Not quite museum quality but good enough for my personal museum !
Nice portrait and some nice green patination. I like it !

You and I (and Dutch too) seem to have similar inclinations in coins.
As I always tell 'Dutch'

"The first century will always be number 1 !"

You can't argue with that

I agree with Furius, a nice sestertius, especially the obverse. A sestertius of Nero is still missing in my collection :)

One of my favorite purchases from when ebay was still a 'pup' !

In 2001 I did not even own a computer !
I had a small 'web TV' device which allowed painfully slow bids to be executed. I was continuously sniped by other buyers.
At the start of this auction I placed a bid of $68.33
With 2 seconds to go a sniper bid $68.25 !

Eight cents ! I wish I could have seen the face of the fellow who lost a Nero sestertius for all of 8 cents !

Balkan issue too. Note the characteristic 'dimple' on both sides

Not the prettiest Nero ..........
But for $68.33 I will take all you have !
