Does anyone have a reference on the weight of the pot metal coin as opposed to the 6.5 gram zinc coin? I have one coin that is 5.9 grams and unsure of the composition.

Thank you,
Steve

Does your unknown coin have a center hole? If not, then it's the same type as your other coin - just zinc.

It could be that your 6.5g Zinc coin has simply reacted with its environment (zinc deterioating). The lighter the coin is (if zinc) the better, simply because it has reacted less.

Normal copper-nickel coins at that time should weigh around 6.5 grams, but these have a small center hole in them. Considering your other coin is indeed lighter than this, I assume it's of better-looking zinc.

This type is known for its contemporary forgeries. typical of this type is the lower weight and the rough or sloppy workmanship of the image and legend.

Thanks, Aernout. I don't have the coin with me right now, but I'm sure that it is what you suggest.
