I'm adding a couple of CBH's to my boxes. I blame GERMANICVS and the other folks who are constantly showing us their drop-dead-gorgeous Capped Bust coinage for getting me started.

Seller claims it's an O-136, I have no reference by which to verify that yet.

Update: general opinion is that it's overgraded (PCGS said XF40) and possibly details. It's probably going right back from whence it came.

VF details. Cleaned. I would not grade it EF, but the TPGs sometimes do.

It's a problem-free coin (no details grade.)

Then it may be the pictures giving it a washed-out appearance. I would not buy it as problem-free based on those pictures.

In that case, it may be a very badly-struck EF-45 to AU-55. I can't judge the luster or wear from the pictures, but my guess would be low AU.

I don't agree with PCGS's straight grade here. I would call it VF-35 Details, Cleaned and no better. I know which seller this coin is from, I can tell from the pictures, and therein lies your problems. Big dealers can often get problem coins straight graded by TPG's by putting psychological pressure on the graders due to the amount of business they give the company.

Oh well. I've got return privileges. I may use them if enough people tell me I'm getting skunked :) I don't plan on reselling the coin, but if it's really overgraded by that much (a details grade would make it almost worthless), I think I'll send it right back. I don't buy details-graded coins in slabs, it's a terrible waste of money, and if there's something rare or extremely expensive I'll buy a nice looking raw piece that would probably bag out at a TPG.

I have bought only two other coins from this particular seller, and both of them once in hand looked quite acceptable, but they were a bit more expensive than this one, and both were green CACs. He's not one of my top 5-10 sellers, but I tend to buy on impulse. There are some sellers I've bought 20-30+ coins from that I trust 100%, and others I'm not sure I trust, even bigger sellers like this one.

Thanks for the input so far. It helps me figure out what's what in a world full of questionable whats.

PCGS has it as XF-40. I'll probably add the seller to my future "no way, Jose" list based on your feedback here after I decide whether or not to keep it.

Sorry not really a fan of this one. The surfaces look like they have been messed with in my opinion. VF-details.

Buy the coin not the holder. If me, I'd return it and look for a nicer one.

It was bought on the basis of looking more AU than XF - the surfaces caught my eye, compared to the usual darker toning. It seemed to be quite nice for the grade. I'd have bought it if it were in an ANACS or NGC holder, as well.

Sending it back when I receive it.

It is an O-136.
XF40 isn't an unreasonable grade for a TPG, maybe the grader saw this one as "market acceptable".

I don't mind the 40 grade, but these surfaces just can't be original
