http://www.ebay.com/itm/1884-CC-MOR...em3cff56515eI found this coin on ebay and it definitely looks fake to me. The toning looks wrong, the date looks off, and the details are grainy. The seller is claiming that they do not know much about coins and states he doesn't know if it's real or not. He has other coins that do not have that stated, but it's only the 2 Morgans (including this one) that have it stated that he is not an expert and he is not sure if it's real. Seems very suspicious to me. Bottom line is, what should we do about this? Tell Bobby or notify the seller? It seems to me the seller is only playing the ignorance card to keep out of trouble since the Morgans are the only ones where he has a disclaimer. Edited by coinlover168 07/26/2015 11:58 pm

Another thing that struck me as strange is that it is only the Morgans that look fake. The rest of his listings seem real to me. Maybe he is just unknowledgable about Morgans?

Don't know if it is fake of not but It's not BU Not a Gem Not Proof-like Not Unc Not MS+++ and Not a Rare Key Date. It is cleaned and polished.
And if real probably isn't worth any more than the single bid it has received if that much. After all, add just a little more and you can buy a real MS pieces in a GSA holder.

The seller has another listing that I find interesting. In the title the seller lists a "roll of wheat pennies with a 1904 Indian Head and a 1908 Indian Head on the ends". In the comments he notes, "Returns can not be accepted for as I do not know what coins are in the roll".
I am still trying to figure out how the seller gets the Indian heads on the end and does not know what coins are in the roll, but knows enough to list in the title it is a roll of Wheat Pennies.

Any time I see that dark fill in around the devices, I assume it's counterfeit. My assumption is that they chemically oxidize the coin and then buff it to simulate age. Never looks natural. So if this seller doesn't know coins, why is the word coin in their user name? And how did they get proof like? Not even close.

After blowing these photos up, I feel this one is a counterfeit. Mushy details, rims, surface, nothing looks right on this one. One more thing, here is how he describes it; 1884 CC Morgan dollar. WITH ROTATED REVERSE, 45 DEGREES. REAL OR NOT? I AM NO EXPERT ON COINS. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT REAL OR NOT. SORRY NO RETURNS ACCEPTED.

Just plain bad. How can he list half the known 1884 CC Morgan's on earth (kidding, of course, but he has a BUNCH of them) and say he doesn't know anything about Morgans?
Even on those coins that are good, I vote with my dollars and never do business with this type of seller.

Well, that's good. The more fake coins we can get off ebay, the better.
