I may have finally found an 1857 obverse of 1856! By chance, I ran across this unattributed in an NGC slab, graded AU55:

I've been looking for this variety for some time, and this one appeared from nowhere. Does it look like the obverse of 1856 to you? I'm seeing the shape of the O and elongated serifs as diagnostic for this variety. I'm hoping to hear back from Rick Snow.

The first pic the lowest part of the F looks like antlers to me!

It does resemble the 2nd pic though. Let us know what Snow has to say.

Thanks...in case it's not clear, these shots are all of the same coin I have also posted these photos in the FLY-IN forum which Rick Snow frequents. Has was also kind enough to verify my 1870 S-8.
