Originally graded MS-66 by NGC. This was before they gave out the FT/FB distinction. Would this qualify for FB if sent to PCGS? Would it still likely get MS-66 or would it be lowered? Does the dark toning kill the value or does it just make the coin more unique? Thanks, I'm new to the whole grading thing so I was just curious.

I can't tell from the photos, but I think in order to be full split bands, the bands not only need to be split, but rounded, not flat.

I think NGC was a little generous so PCGS would give it a lower grade.Leave as is and if you don't really like it sell it and get a better one. John1

I think it could come back FB. I Don't know if the white spots on obverse will lower the grade one notch. you have a catch 22 situation. good luck with your decision .

I'd be in the "leave as is" camp. Not certain on the FB as it appears the bands are rather flat. Tone is more often loved by NGC and not by PCGS in my own experience.

I would resubmit it, although I would go with NGC...

Maybe I'm just bad at grading (or the seller has really bad pics) but how is this a pcgs ms 67 but the coin I posted is only a ngc 66? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-S-Roos...em542038df88The detail on the ebay coin above doesn't look near as good so I can't understand the ms 67 grade from a more picky company..

If you don't have both coins in your hands, its senseless to attempt to compare them by two different sets of photos.
We have all been fooled by photos, either thinking it's much better or much worse than the pictures we see. Coins in hand are the best way to compare.

You can submit back to NGC for to be 'reconsidered' for attribution such at FT. If it doesn't make the grade then they just send you coin back still in it's original holder. That's how I would send it. I think it's a minor investment if you believe it is indeed a full torch.
