Hey guys, just found this coin today, the 'AUSTRALIA 2001' on the left side is wayyyyy thicker than the one on the right. Zooming out of the picture may help.. It's so thick, there is barely any holes in between the xtwo zeros... And because they are thicker, they take a longer span and the words are closer to the rim... Any help is appreciated.. It's the first time I've seen this particular coin, but I do see the difference--rather dramatic isn't it? It would be great to see a closeup, perhaps around "AUSTRALIA". I almost see some doubling at the truncation of the bust, but I'm not sure if that's just the shot, Strike Doubling, or what. It may have something to do with the thickness of the legend.

Hey Kurt, sorry that my pictures aren't good, but it sure is a weird thing hey? like AUSTRALIA 2001, its normal holes in the alphabets are relatively smaller, especially the A's, they look like they almost have no holes in them... You reckon this coin is of any value?

Hi everyone.

I have seen a few of these and they are common with the 2001 'Australia' coins (not sure why). If it is one of the federation state coins is will be worth a little more. I wouldn't say the coin is very valuable.

Sorry! Ben

The coin you have pictured has been stamped slightly off centre. Probably worth around 50 cents AUD unless the other side of the coin has a state of Australia on it. There is a whole set of 50 cent coins for 2001. A bit like you State Quarters but only done in one year as we have fewer states.

G'day, very interesting.
It'd be great to see a larger magnification.
Until then, have a look at the shape of the letters "A" in Australia: quite a difference, eh ?
Also, the "I".
I'd be hanging on to this one.
