Below are some pics of a coin I found. It appears to have 2 die chips on it.I have found several of these coins. In addition to these I have found several without the chip on the lower left of the memorial. Both have the same die scratches under America and over the o in ONE.The question I have is I also found some coins with the same kind of chip on the E without any of the die scratches or the chip on the memorial. With this being the case,is it possible they are from 2 different dies?

The chips on the E look virtually identical, I think. But it is difficult to see detail on the first one because of the reflection. If they are, it would suggest to me that the one without a chip on the memorial is an earlier die state?

They are different die states. A die chip can get larger with continued use of that die. Die scratches/clashes come and go with polishings/continued use. But I see no evidence that they were from the same die pair. If one is a Small date and the other is a large date, that would probably rule out possibility. The small date cents had a problem with die chips, thus the need for the large date for that year.

All 3 coins are large dates.I have found about the same amount of each one.The thing I am having a hard time with is 2 of the 3 coins are very similar in all aspects other than the chip on memorial. The third coin, the last 2 pics, does'nt remotely look similar to the other 2.So is it possible that 2 different dies could have the same die chip ?
