As I've mentioned elsewhere, I don't collect coins, I'm helping family members with an estate that includes a bunch of loose coins in a bag. I do as much as I can on my own but you guys have come through for me every time I get stuck.

There are a few oriental coins that have been driving me crazy. This one, I finally figured out was Japanese, not Chinese. I believe it's a 4 Mon 21 Wave from the period 1768-1860. With the drilled hole, I'm guessing it's probably only worth $1 or so.

Did I get this one right? (guess it helps if I add the photos, doesn't it!)

Indeed it is 4 Mon from Japan, however I don't see even $1 in that thing, considering the hole. Too many jewelers (or others) drill holes in otherwise astonishing coins to create medallions or other pieces of jewelry. This one's extra crazy, considering there is already a large center hole. Maybe soneone wanted to make a button?

Drill hoels are usually damage that completely ruins the coin. Most numismatists (coin collectors) would not be interested, at least for $1. Probably some other type of collector/enthusiast/jewelry maker would spend $1 on that.
