I am finding these coins difficult to collect from LCS's and even from shows. I guess I must return to ebay to find these coins. I put bids in on 1917-D Type 11 and 1918-D. I want to complete this set. The prices are high.

True. Some, in AU+, are, for most of us, cost-prohibitive.

It's my favorite series. Tough to find a great deal, but some good deals are out there. Especially if you have an ebay bucks deal.
Rest in Peace

I saw a beautiful 1921 go unsold with a starting bid of 750.00. It was easily AU-55. So there are some nice coins with good prices on the old ebay.

And by far one of the nicest coins ever minted.

I have an open search for any TPG grading 40 or better that is at auction rather than BIN and I still don't get many notices per day. Most of the nicer ones are BIN, which I don't necessarily understand, because auction prices never go cheap, either.

Definitely one of my three favorite designs as well, along with the Buffalo nickel and the Indian $10 gold piece. They've always been kind of dear in the higher grades becuase of the vulnerability of the date and some low mintages!

I think the vulnerability of the date is really crucial to the scarcity and high prices. I wonder how many of these coins with low mintage have their dates wiped clean? I also wonder just how many decent LSQ's are actually out there in lower grades condition? You can get a 1925 in EF condition for $50, but a 1918-D or 1924-D in EF will cost you $145 -$200. That is mostly due to the vulnerability of the date IMO. The 1921 and 1923-S are just out of sight in EF.

The Standing Liberty quarters are one of my favorites as well. It's one of the many early quarters I have to collect by type in mint state.

I'd love to see a complete set in 63 or better.

Good luck not a easy set to assemble. It will be my last set I start certified examples for because of their prices

I bought a 1917D type 11 and a 1918D on ebay. I did not get a bargain, but I got them. Now I am bidding on a 1920D and a 1924D. The 1921, 1923-S 1919D, 1919S are really expensive to me. I am OCD enough to want to fill the collection, but really gagging on the prices I see. It is not only hard to just find these coins outside the online world, but they are also selling for a premium I think. What possessed me to start this collection set? When I buy a Morgan in Unc. condition I feel like I am getting my money's worth. I get a LSQ in V or EF condition with dates before 1925 and I feel like I am getting this worn coin with readable date and that is all. I do think the LSQ is the hardest modern silver coin to justify collecting due to poor quality of the strikes and expense. In AU or MS 60+ they are a beautiful coin, but this is no coin for a beginner. I guess I like a challenge.

I REALLY like these coins, but I only own 3, the highest being in VF. I wish I could afford a better one, but it is unlikely that I will.

Not sure what coin shows you go to but the ones by me have lots and lots of those. And some in really great conditions. Don't know if you can make it but that coin show at the Rosemont, Il. in August, would have all of the ones you want or need.
