Hello everyone. First, let me give some background. My older cousin has a HUGE jar of change saved up from the past 15 years or so. He said we can go through it to look for anything old or interesting, and I want to wrap the coins so he doesn't take them to Coinstar and get a huge fee taken out. Since there's a lot of coins, I've been hitting several banks to ensure I have enough wrappers, but a TD Bank I went to said they didn't have any. Is this because they have the penny arcade? The point of coin wrappers is to ensure accuracy, and I don't trust coin counters after reading how inaccurate some were. Do all other banks carry coin wrappers, or do ones with coin counters not supply them? I'd appreciate any answers.

Call around or search online to see which banks in your area actually have coin counters you can use... "Bring change to a good cause Donating your loose change is easy. Follow instructions on TD Coin Counters and support a charitable organization. Donations greater than $20 will be eligible for a tax receipt by visiting the charity's website" http://www.tdcanadatrust.com/produc...-counter.jsp

As mentioned, if you have an account with a bank they will put any quantity of change (shy of a truck load) through their professional counting machines for no charge.
If you really want to take the time to wrap all those coins yourself you can go to any of the "Dollar" stores i.e. General, etc. and buy a whole package of coin wrappers for a $1.

I don't know what banks have coin wrappers, but you can buy them in $1 stores, discount stores, etc. they are sold in bags 100 or more .

In IL, Chase stopped cashing change, but said they would give out wrappers upon request (I don't know if that's limited to account holders)

I do my banking with Bank of America. Never had an issue with them providing me with coin wrappers. Just ask nicely and they'll provide you with some.

Same with Bank of America by me. I just give them the bag and they send out for counting. They then add the amount to my account. Not rolled, just a bag of coins.

Thank you everyone for helping me out. The reason I want to roll the change is because my cousin hasn't looked through it for interesting things, so I figured we might as well roll it, as it's hard to get lots of coins back into a 5 gallon jug to dump at a bank.

Banks have to have rolls for coins. They will run out of delivered rolls one day and learn why. I wold hate this bank you speak of to have business customers. Do they just give them a bunch of loose coins when they come in for some? Do they jsut keep 30 boxes of each coin on hand and send all loose coins through the counter and back somewhere to be rolled every week?
Have fun looking through them all. I tried to fill a water cooler jug like that with coins, but the floor complained about the idea, so I had to give up on it.

I am curious where about you people live that all banks have these counting machines. Places like New York, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta that are major metropolises or just a normal town?
Also where are these ear damaging machines kept so they don't annoy every person coming into the bank?

True most places do not have coin counting machines. Again, I take them in a bag to the bank. They send them out for counting to some place. However, if you do not have an account, they will charge you for this service. AND if you take them in rolls, you may get a charge for them having to open them all. If they have to send you a check for the change, that too will cost you. Best thing is to open an account with them. Any savings account will do. Then you can take your coins to them in a bag and they will send them out and place the amount in your account at no charge. I've seen people come in with coins in a jar but that is taking a chance of dropping. You could ask your bank for a coin bag or make one. A small pillow case would do but possibly doubled. A long time ago I asked for a coin bag and they gave me several.

I have only cashed in rolls at 2 branches of the bank I'm with but at both of them the tellers took the rolled coins without even opening them. Even on my most recent cash in (which was over 150 bucks in change) they just gave me cash for it, and that's how I got a bunch of my old 20's even though I no longer have most of them.

I stopped in at a local Chase bank today and asked about rolled coins. They told me the would still take them but only if you have an account. And if those are short, you would get fined and it would come out of your account. Banks are getting strange. At a Bank Of America today I was told in order to talk to an officer I would have to make an appointment. To get into my safe deposit box I would have to make an appointment. To order more checks for my checking account, I would have to order on line. I told them what if I don't use the internet. I was told to just go to any Library and use theirs. They too only take bulk coins but ship to an outside place for counting. I think it's time to move to another bank.
